Leaders Take Reign

  We witnessed the traditional Meeting De Avance, where candidates for the Student Coordinating Board (SCB) formally present their platforms to the students at the GSCS Gymnasium, last July 14, 2014.

   The program started with a prayer led by Marie Gabrielle Bernabe, followed by an opening speech by the school principal, Dr. Carina G. Dacanay. Then members of the two contending parties, namely SELFIE (Students with Effectual Leadership and Fervent desire for Institutional change and Empowered Studentry) and XMEN (EXtraordinary  Models of Excellence and Nobility), presented their proposed projects that they would implement if they were voted into office. They also performed dance intermission numbers that entertained the audience and showed their lighter side.

   The SELFIE party proposed that they would establish these projects; Shoot A Trash (cleaning up trash meets basketball), Adopt A Star (a child will be given a chance to become a GSCS scholar), Tutor A Friend (candidates tutoring their fellow classmates that need help) and Rent A Plate (to help train the students return canteen utensils/plates orderly).

    On the other hand, the XMEN stated that they will make the following plans true; Run For A Cause (charity fun run), Huli Ka Bully Ka! (Anti-Bullying program), Your Trash Your Cash (throw your trash properly in return of cash), Intramurals, and more Spiritual Recollections and Outreaches.

   It was obvious that the performance of the SELFIE party was more eye-catching than what the XMEN did but the results were contrary to what was shown in the Meeting de Avance. The result for the election is as follows:

   The XMEN definitely dominated the ballots but that doesn’t matter now. Despite all the elected officer coming from two opposing teams, they are now together to form one Student Coordinating Board (SCB).
