GSCS Family: Then And Now
By Marie Gabrielle Bernabe
Every
year we grow and learn together, now let’s take a closer look in our gscs
family.
They say that the school and its’
community is another place to grow and another family to love. We spend so much
time in school everyday and that is how we grow attached to something—something
familiar and welcoming like a true family.
Our family has grown and prospered
from being the small pre-school, Good Shepherd Parish Academy (GSPA) to be the
school we all know today as Good Shepherd Cathedral School.
The
GSCS family began when Msgr. Fidelis Lincaco founded GSPA then, upon his
retirement, handed over his directorship to Msgr. Jesus-Romulo C. Rañada who
then lead the school to gain government recognition for its high school
department and with its’ continuous progress, GSPA was later renamed as GSCS
after the parish accelerated to Cathedral by the Diocese of Novaliches.
During those early years, the GSCS community
only moved within one building where where the ECE and primary levels are currentlylocated.
Now, there’s the H.E.A.R.T. building and the newly added facilities to meet the
needs of the growing number of students. At present, our school is headed by
our school director Rev. Fr. Albert N. Delvo, our principal, Dr. Carina G.
Dacanay and our finance officer Mrs. Jennifer P. Datungan.

The three Latin words that serve as
our three core values and that also echo in our minds and hearts when we walk
in our alma mater’s halls. These three words are what the Good Shepherd
Cathedral School’s community adheres to for the past 18 years of the school’s
existence: Nobility of Character, Academic Excellence and Compassionate
Service. A generous evidence of this is when we reminisce on the times when we
unite to help out with the victims of calamities, pray together and take part in school events. Our progress
helps us gain the PAASCU accreditation and other certifications.
Guided by God and the three core
values of the school, the GSCS family continues to gather fruitful and
life-giving years and continue to welcome every new academic year with open
hearts and minds. United in all that we do, the telling of the history of GSCS
wouldn’t be complete without the happy
memories of school events where the students enjoy in the campus by
bring themselves at school fairs, monthly programs lined up or school field
trips.
The school’s community has the same
likeness to a small society that is only a fraction of the grandeur of reality
outside school walls. In every society, there will always be a scene wherein
somebody’s function is another person’s benefit. It means that we should be
there when someone needs us, and in unity, do we show it. We all need each
other as this community’s inhabitants: teachers need students to teach and
students need teachers to guide them to learn better. We gain each other’s trust as time goes by
when we bond and make memories together.
Each year, GSCS welcomes the new
people who come in and put their trust in the school. We can’t say that
everyone there is as agreeable as others and that we always get along, but seeing
the development of the school, it is clear that not everything that meets the
eye is what it seems.
This is how we are a family: we are
united under one Good Shepherd and we strive to fulfill the mission that we
were given. That mission is to spread the Good News to all.

The three core values that the
school holds on to and that can describe our GSCS family that can be seen in
both in actions and in words.
